What Are Natural Medicine Services?
Melissa Perry is a Licensed Colorado-Natural Medicine facilitator and integration specialist. She holds psychedelic assisted therapy certification through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. She is authorized to provide and support natural medicine services in accordance with Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act (Proposition 122 / SB23-290).
Under Colorado's regulated program, natural medicine services involve the supervised use of psilocybin (and psilocin) in a licensed setting, structured in three phases:
1. Preparation Sessions
Before any administration, you and Melissa will meet to review your mental health history, current medications, intentions, and any contraindications. This session builds the trust and context that makes the experience safe and meaningful.
2. Administration Session
In a calm, carefully prepared environment, you'll receive natural medicine and be supported throughout the entire experience by your licensed facilitator. This session typically lasts four to six hours and can open access to emotional material and insight that may take years to reach through conventional talk therapy alone.
3. Integration Sessions
What happens after the experience matters enormously. Integration therapy helps you translate insights from the natural medicine experience into lasting behavioral and emotional change — weaving the extraordinary into the everyday.
Who May Benefit?
Research from Johns Hopkins, NYU, and UCLA — and the FDA's Breakthrough Therapy designation for psilocybin — suggests natural medicine services may offer significant benefit for:
Treatment-resistant depression
Anxiety disorders (generalized, existential, end-of-life)
PTSD and complex trauma
Moral injury (especially in first responders and veterans)
Compassion fatigue
Substance use disorders (as part of a comprehensive treatment plan)
Please note: Natural medicine services require a thorough preparation process, medical collaboration where indicated, and eligibility screening. Melissa will discuss whether this pathway is appropriate for you during your free consultation.
Psychedelic Integration Therapy (Standalone)
Already had a psychedelic experience — whether through a healing center, personal use, or a ceremony — and need support making sense of it?
Melissa also offers psychedelic integration therapy as a standalone service, helping you process and integrate what arose.
Frequently Asked Questions about Natural Medicine
Is psilocybin therapy legal in Colorado?
Yes — Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act (Proposition 122, implemented via SB23-290) established a regulated, legal program for adults 21 and older to access natural medicine services including psilocybin-assisted therapy at licensed healing centers under the supervision of a licensed facilitator. Melissa Perry is a Colorado-licensed natural medicine facilitator authorized to provide these services in compliance with state law. Psilocybin remains a Schedule I substance under federal law, but Colorado's state-level program operates legally within the state.
What are natural medicine services?
Natural medicine services are a structured, clinically supervised program involving the therapeutic use of psilocybin (and psilocin) under Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act. The process includes three phases: a preparation session where intentions and history are explored; an administration session where natural medicine is received in a safe, supported environment; and integration sessions where insights from the experience are processed and translated into lasting change.
Who is eligible for natural medicine services in Colorado?
Natural medicine services are available to adults aged 21 and older. Both Colorado residents and visitors to Colorado are welcome. A thorough preparation process and eligibility screening are required before any administration session. Certain psychiatric diagnoses and medications may be contraindications — Melissa will discuss your individual situation during your free consultation to determine whether natural medicine services are appropriate for you.
Can I travel to Colorado for natural medicine services?
Yes — adults 21 and older are welcome to travel to Colorado specifically to access natural medicine services. Colorado is one of only a handful of states in the country where regulated psilocybin-assisted therapy is legal, and Soul Yoga Counseling works with both local residents and out-of-state visitors. Please reach out to discuss logistics, preparation, and scheduling for those traveling from out of state.
What conditions can natural medicine services help with?
Research from Johns Hopkins, NYU, and UCLA — and the FDA's Breakthrough Therapy designation for psilocybin — suggests natural medicine services may offer significant benefit for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD and complex trauma, moral injury, compassion fatigue, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Natural medicine services are not a cure-all and are not appropriate for everyone — a thorough screening process helps ensure safety and suitability.
What is psychedelic integration therapy?
Psychedelic integration therapy is specialized support for processing and making meaning from a psychedelic or natural medicine experience. It helps you translate insights, emotions, and shifts that arose during the experience into lasting behavioral and emotional change. Integration therapy is available at Soul Yoga Counseling both as part of the natural medicine services program and as a standalone service for those who have had experiences through other channels — healing centers, ceremonies, or personal use.
How is psilocybin therapy different from recreational use?
Natural medicine services under Colorado's regulated program are entirely different from recreational use. They involve careful clinical screening, structured preparation sessions, a supervised administration session with a licensed facilitator, and dedicated integration therapy afterward. The therapeutic context, intention, dosing, and professional support fundamentally change the nature and outcome of the experience. This is clinically informed, legally regulated healing — not recreational drug use.
Is psilocybin therapy safe?
Psilocybin has a well-established safety profile in clinical research settings and is considered non-addictive. When accessed through a licensed facilitator under Colorado's regulated program — with proper screening, preparation, and integration support — natural medicine services are considered safe for eligible individuals. Contraindications exist, including certain psychiatric diagnoses and medications, which is why thorough screening before any administration session is required and non-negotiable at Soul Yoga Counseling.
Does insurance cover natural medicine services?
At this time, natural medicine services are generally not covered by insurance as they are a newly regulated therapeutic modality. Traditional therapy sessions at Soul Yoga Counseling may be covered depending on your insurance plan — Melissa works with select insurance providers and can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Please contact Melissa directly to discuss fees, insurance, and payment options for your specific situation.
Colorado's Natural Medicine Health Act: A New Path to Healing
In 2022, Colorado voters passed Proposition 122 — the Natural Medicine Health Act (NMHA) — establishing a regulated program that allows adults 21 and older to access natural medicine services, including psilocybin, in supervised, licensed settings.
Under this law, licensed facilitators like Melissa can legally provide structured natural medicine services that include:
Preparation sessions — exploring intentions, history, and what to expect
Administration session — supervised natural medicine experience in a regulated and safe, supported environment
Integration sessions — processing and weaving insights into lasting change
In a calm, carefully prepared, (regulated within the state of Colorado) environment you'll receive natural medicine and be supported throughout the entire experience by your licensed facilitator. Sessions typically last four to six hours and can open access to emotional material and insight that may take years to reach through conventional talk therapy alone.
